Blackfoot – Paul William Rowe, 88, of Blackfoot, longtime educator, died June 18, 1992, at Bingham Memorial Hospital.
He was born Dec. 13, 1903, at McCammon to Benjamin and Sarah Allen Rowe. He received his early education in McCammon and attended Utah State Agricultural College in Logan, Utah, and Idaho Technical College, now Idaho State University, in Pocatello. He taught for two years at Salmon before serving a two-year LDS mission in Texas for Spanish speakers. After the mission, he was principal of the McCammon grade school for two years and then returned to Brigham Young University to complete his graduation requirements.
On May 25, 1932, he married Ilene Allen in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. They lived in McCammon and farmed on Marsh Creek before moving to Thomas where he was principal of Thomas High School for seven years. They moved to Pocatello and he was involved in the high school and junior high school education system. He helped organize the Pocatello Teachers Credit Union there. When they moved to Blackfoot, he organized the Blackfoot Teachers Credit Union. He retired in 1967 after 42 years in the education profession. They wintered in Arizona for several years.
He served in several LDS bishoprics, on the High Council and as stake chorister. He and his wife served a Spanish speaking mission in Florida and Puerto Rico. He enjoyed singing, playing the piano, the banjo and harmonica, directing musical plays, going to his cabin in Island Park, fishing, history and traveling.
Survivors include his wife of Blackfoot; children, Jerry Allen Rowe of Chubbuck, Richard Floyd Rowe of Redmond, Wash., Mrs. Reed (Pauline) Mackley of North Ogden, Utah, Mrs. Mitchel (Reva) Roland of Tremonton, Utah, Annette Bates of West Jordan, Utah, and Mrs. James (Joyce) Plastow of Blackfoot; 31 grandchildren; and 30 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, a daughter, five sisters and four brothers.
Funeral services will be Saturday at 11a.m. at the Blackfoot LDS 5th Ward with Bishop Stanley Harwell officiating. Visitation will be tonight from 7 to 9 at Hill-Sandberg Funeral Home in Blackfoot and Saturday for one hour before services at the church. Burial will be at 3 p.m. in the McCammon Cemetery.
